First Look: Russell Crowe as Darren Aronofsky’s ‘Noah’ | /Film

The Bible has got to be one of the most whitewashed works of literature ever.

In Religious Education (a secular class on the subject of various religions) I was once asked to draw a cartoon of a Biblical story for homework. After I’d drawn all the outlines I asked my mother what colour the people would have been in that area of the world at that time and she said brown. So I colored everybody in with the brown pencil crayon. My RE teacher seemed offended and told me to rub out all the brown colour.

tl;dr my teacher told me to literally erase PoC

RELEVANT TO HUMANITY

dear tumblr

THIS.

It takes a very brave able-bodied white heterosexual man to make jokes that reinforce oppressions that he is not a victim of. I salute you, Ricky Gervais, for taking a stand against the people that want you to act like a decent human being.

If you’re voting for Mitt Romney, you are personally responsible for explaining to any LGBTQ* friends or family in your life why their rights aren’t a priority to you.

Oh, yes. Because being held accountable for your personal choice to support a political candidate that endorses discrimination and bigotry is so inconveniencing to you.

And if you vote for Obama, you have to take a trip to Waziristan and explain to everybody you meet why their right to not be murdered via drone strike isn’t a priority to you.

Not that I think Romney wouldn’t do that, but let’s not forget that the guy who’s done some great things at home is a war criminal abroad.

The Equalists:

  • Challenged the most privileged in society,
  • forcibly removed the bending of people who had been oppressing non-benders,
  • taught their members skills and invented tools which give them the ability to challenge benders in a physical confrontation.

Korra:

  • Literally silenced a non-bender who was verbally challenging her privilege,
  • participated in and tried to defend the arena of a sport that perpetuates the priviledge of bending.

I’m hoping Korra is going to have a long hard think and realise she’s not Team Avatar right now.

My current theory is that Tarrlock will turn out to be the real baddie. It’ll surface that he’s been attacking the Equalsts via his taskforce for some underhanded reason. We already know he’s a jerk because of the way he treated Korra when he “convinced” her to join his taskforce.

I can’t and won’t sit back and passively consume images that perpetuate a 60-billion dollar diet industry, conflate health with beauty, and promote fat hate.

My government is actively defining citizenship to not include me, to not include people who take up space.  I will not stand for this; I will resist.  I will take a public stand.

I need to print out some labels to slap on hateful anti-fat propaganda.
